The health of the body is shown in the hair, nails and skin. If hair is dry and dull, it has everything to do with what is going on inside the body. Some hair care can be done on the hair, but without having a proper diet and taking care of the body, all your efforts will be wasted. To have truly healthy hair, start with assessing what you are putting in your body.
Drink Plenty of Water
Water is a great benefit to the body as a whole. For hair, it provides moisture to the hair roots, allowing healthy hair to grow. Many people suffering from limp and dry hair are not drinking enough water. Just drinking your regular 8 glasses a day may not be enough. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your weight (pounds) in water (ounces). So, if you are 200 pounds, you need to drink at least 100 ounces of water a day.
Take Vitamins
The hair is part of the integrumary system, the largest organ in the human body. This organ is responsible for the continuous growth of hair, skin and nails. This organ requires lots of nutrients in order to function correctly. The most effective vitamins for healthy hair are vitamin B complex, biotin, folic acid and vitamin A. These vitamins can be found in the healthy food we eat or in a pill form from your local drugstore.
Have a Proper Diet
The body has to metabolize the sugars and fats that we consume. Filling the body with bad foods causes it to have to work overtime to get rid of them. This drains the body of energy, and it can show in your hair. Lifeless and dull hair is a result of improper dieting. Plus, the hair is made up of 88 percent proteins. You need to consume foods high in protein to have your hair look its healthiest. Eat lots of poultry, fish, whole grains and dairy products to give your hair a natural sheen.
Exercise Regularly
Getting exercise is a two-fold benefit for the hair. One, when the metabolism is working, new hair growth is stimulated. Many people have found out that their hair grows the longest when they have an active lifestyle. Two, exercise stimulates the sweat glands; this provides additional moisture to the hair roots and scalp. If properly lubricated, the scalp moisturizes the hair strands.
